Bezalel Design Academy, a fast-growing design EdTech institution, continues to position itself as a catalyst for youth development and innovation within Nigeria’s creative industry. Founded by Mr Aanuoluwa Oyewole, the Academy was established in response to a noticeable gap in structured design education and a passion to empower a new generation of designers to transform the world through innovative and purpose-driven design solutions.

With a clear focus on excellence and relevance, the Academy equips aspiring graphic designers with strong design foundations and contemporary strategies required to thrive in a highly competitive digital landscape. Its programmes are designed not only to teach technical skills but also to build confidence, critical thinking, and a sense of purpose among participants.

This vision has driven the successful implementation of three major impact projects: Turning Addiction Into a Career (TAIAC 1.0, TAIAC 2.0), and Digi-Transform by Bezalel. Each project reflects the Academy’s commitment to using creativity and digital skills as tools for social impact and youth development.

In an age where excessive smartphone use often distracts young people and limits productivity, Bezalel Design Academy identified an opportunity to redirect attention towards value creation. While acknowledging the challenges of phone addiction, the Academy also recognised the immense potential of smartphones as learning and creative tools, especially in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

TAIAC, a free smartphone graphic design and photography training, was designed to help students, teens, and young adults convert everyday phone usage into skills that support long-term personal and economic growth. The maiden edition of the programme was held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Lasehinde Hall, Obandi, Ogbomoso, with 35 participants. The programme is targeted at underserved communities where phone addiction is most prevalent, demonstrating the Academy’s intentional approach to grassroots impact.

Participants were introduced to core aspects of design education, including graphic design fundamentals, the design thinking process, social media flyer design, effective colour usage, smartphone photography, and the elements and principles of design. To reinforce learning beyond theory, the training incorporated hands-on exercises such as sketching, practical design tasks, quizzes, and confidence-building assessments. These activities encouraged participants to apply their knowledge creatively while developing problem-solving skills and self-confidence. Some of their design activities are shown below.

Bezalel Design Academy delivered the training with a level of excellence that ensured participants received a transformative experience. The Academy’s intentionality and commitment to quality learning were evident throughout the programme, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.

Testimonies from participants further affirm the impact of the initiative, highlighting personal growth, renewed confidence, and a clearer sense of purpose. Through programmes such as TAIAC and Digi-Transform, Bezalel Design Academy continues to advance its vision of raising a new generation of youths equipped to lead, innovate, and solve problems with purpose and passion in an evolving digital world.
